Chancellor Emerita, University of Toronto, Author

Appointed in 1998 as the first Senator of Asian descent to the Senate of Canada, she tabled 2 Bills under the Chrétien government to restore “us” in the National Anthem. Retired in 2012 from the Senate and continues to be actively involved in the community. She obtained her PhD in History at the University of Toronto, and is an author of nonfiction. As Chancellor Emerita of the University of Toronto, she spends a great deal of time on campus among scholars and students.
